A. Be of the same mind with one another to preserve the unity in the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 1:10).

Christians are to share the same mind, that is be of the same kind of person. All Christians are to be like Christ, and so all Christians should be moving to the same ultimate goal, and in doing so be one in the same mind. The Christian “mind” is to be more Christ-like and unified under one head. Unity is important to the body, and being a Christian means striving for unity.

B. Do not be greedy but instead wait for one another when you come to eat and thus express the unity of the Body of Christ (I Corinthians 11:17-22, 33).

Christians should not put themselves above other Christians. Unity means considering one another as equal to yourself, all being one in the same body, under the same head. Unity is an essential part of love as a Christian.

C. There should be no divisions in the body but the members should have the same care for one another (I Corinthians 12:25).

Again, an essential aspect of Christian love is equal care for one another. There should be unity in the body, as this is what a body is (a unified whole of many parts), and the Christian should strive to protect this unity. The Christian’s love is not a feeling they have toward other Christians, but a whole attitude and demeanor toward keeping the body unified.

D. Give yourself first to the Lord and then to one another that you may demonstrate participation in the support of other believers (II Corinthians 8:4-5).

The Lord must be first in all relationships. Loyalty to the Lord is the first and primary responsibility of the Christian. However, when one is loyal to the Lord, it is important to then be loyal to other Christians above oneself. Supporting other Christians is an effective measure of love for the brothers and sisters in the faith. Christians must be Christ centered first and others centered second.
