I do not take a hard stance on this issue. I believe there are advantages to both the literary framework view and the literal seven-day view. The creation may have been a short, seven-day creation. Creation may have also been a long, drawn-out process by which God intends on bringing Himself glory through His masterful planning and providence. Both systems would bring glory to God in the execution of His creating acts.
I believe the conversation on creationism is revealing of other issues, though. Those who make a hard stance and believe in theistic evolution must also be ready to admit that the Bible trumps the current scientific understanding of history, and so while scientific interpretation changes, the Bible will not change. Additionally, I believe it is healthy for those who strictly believe in young-earth to admit that God is capable of making humans from already-existing animals.
Science must be viewed as the secondary source of truth to the Bible, while also understanding that the Bible’s main purpose is not scientific explanation.
